1. How much is a counselling session?
Fee: $95 for 50 minutes
My aim is to make therapy affordable, and easily accessible, for people who prefer to access counselling privately, rather than seeing a GP for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). My total fee is less than the out of pocket expense you pay a psychologist even if you have a MHCP. Because my clients access sessions privately, rather than through a MHCP, you won't have to sit on a wait list for months on end either. Win, win!
2. What ages do you provide counselling for?
I currently provide counselling for adults 18 and over.
3. How do I make an appointment or enquiry?
If you wish to make an enquiry you can use the "Drop me a Line" form in the dropdown menu. Or, simply click the envelope in the circle found at the bottom of each page. I will do my best to respond within 24 hours.
4. What hours do you work?
Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 10:00 am–5:00 pm
Wednesday: 10:00 am–5:00 pm
Thursday: 11:00 am–7:00 pm
Friday: 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
Saturday: By appointment
Sunday: Closed
5. What modes of counselling do you offer?
I offer person to person counselling in Townsville only. I will provide you with the details prior to our first session.
I also provide phone counselling upon request.
6. What approaches do you use?
At the heart of my counselling style are always Person-centred Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy.
Person-centred Therapy was founded by Dr Carl Rogers who believed clients have an inherent ability to grow and self-actualise. I see my role as your guide, holding a bright lamp for your path, or, gently handing you the keys to unlock your wisdom and potential.
This is accomplished by having empathy, respect and unconditional positive regard for my clients. My firm belief is that when people experience unconditional acceptance it leads to change in a wondrous and magical way. This may seem counterintuitive because we are all used to being told what to do by others! I believe we are all looking for warmth, empathy and acceptance. We wear so many masks and play roles simply trying to be accepted.
Compassion-focused therapy will help you to see yourself with kinder eyes. We can be very harsh on ourselves due to family of origin experiences and subsequent life experiences. The result is often troubling thoughts and emotions we harbour towards ourselves. If you experience shame and self-criticism this type of therapy is particularly liberating. We usually don't even realise we need self-compassion; we are so used to being driven by our harsh inner critic.
Some of the other approaches we may use include: ACT, somatic therapy, CBT (with my own variations), attachment therapy, mindfulness approaches.
I believe it's important to have a diverse range of colours in my counselling palette because every person is unique and deserves an approach individually tailored to them.

Note: I am a registered Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) - Member No. 19153. Qualifications: Diploma of Counselling (Institute of Applied Psychology), BA - Behavioural Science (James Cook University), Grad. Dip. Arts - Sociology (James Cook University)
I have completed many certificates for ongoing professional development. Just a few examples include: general bereavement, bereavement for pet owners, trauma, ASIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.
