I provide grief counselling specifically for pet owners. Pet owners experience “disenfranchised grief” - grief that is not recognised or validated by society. This can result in feeling unsupported, judged, misunderstood and alone during an already heartbreaking time.
Many people say pets are like family. I would go even further and say to many people they are more than family. Your pet’s love is often the most real and consistent form of unconditional love you will ever experience. Because of this you also feel free to love them unconditionally. This reciprocal unconditional love results in an incredibly powerful bond. It makes sense you will grieve when this bond is broken.
The number one thing people need when grieving is support. I feel privileged to offer you this support during one of the most heartbreaking times of your life. I have pets of my own and I truly get the impact losing a pet-friend in whatever form can have on you, be it a furry, feathered or scaly pet-friend.
